How We Farm Sustainably
Sustainable Poultry Farming at Klong Phai Farm: Premium Quality with a Conscience
The Foundation of Sustainable Poultry Farming
At Klong Phai Farm, we prioritize a healthy environment, clean air, and good soil to raise high-quality poultry. Our sustainable farming practices ensure humane treatment of livestock while responsibly managing land, water, and feed.
Premium Ingredients for Superior Products
Klong Phai Farm uses only the finest, sustainably sourced ingredients in our animal feed and ready-to-eat meals. This commitment results in food that is rich in nutrition and superior in taste. Our offerings include the best cuts, from classically flavored juicy poultry to more intensely flavored meats.
High Standards of Animal Welfare
We select free-range produce from farms that practice high standards of animal welfare. Our animals roam freely, foraging on a hormone-free and antibiotic-free diet, maturing naturally. This natural approach guarantees the highest quality and taste.
Environmentally Conscious Farming Practices
Our animals roam pastures, eating grasses, weeds, bugs, and worms. We rotate the chickens to fresh grass regularly, allowing pastures to recuperate. By avoiding pesticides and herbicides, we prevent waterway contamination, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship.
Our hens provide natural fertilizer, reducing the need for additional fertilization. We also provide vegetarian, non-GMO supplemental feed free of hormones and antibiotics.

Our Commitment
Klong Phai Farm is committing to work with our suppliers to achieve the standards of the Better Chicken Commitment for our Chicken. By 2029, it is required that 100% of our fresh, frozen, and processed Chicken, adhere to the following set of standards:
- Implement a maximum stocking density of 30 kg/m² or less. Thinning is discouraged and if practiced must be limited to one thin per flock.
- Adopt approved breeds that demonstrate higher welfare outcomes (breeds validated by the European Chicken Commitment Technical Working Group).
- Meet improved environmental standards including:
- At least 50 lux of light, including natural light.
- At least two meters of usable perch space, and two pecking substrates, per 1000 birds.
- On air quality, the concentration of ammonia must not exceed 20 ppm, and carbon dioxide must remain at 3000 ppm at the birds’ head level, regardless of density.
- No cages or multi-tier systems.
- Adopt controlled atmospheric stunning using inert gas or multi-phase systems, or effective electrical stunning without live inversion. See statement of intent regarding religious slaughter below.
- Demonstrate compliance with the above standards via third-party auditing and annual public reporting on progress towards this commitment.
We are pleased to collaborate with Compassion in World Farming as we work together to support the implementation of the Better Chicken Commitment criteria.
Adoption of Humane Slaughter Systems for Chickens requiring a Reversible Stun: Statement of Intent
Electrical waterbath stunning is the main method used globally for the slaughter of poultry. There are, however, significant animal welfare concerns with this method and in 2012 the European Food Safety Authority called for an end to its use1 . Effective electric alternatives are yet to be developed. However, recognizing that under halal standards, Controlled Atmosphere Systems may not be accepted as the animal must not be dead at the time of slaughter (cutting), it is a bare minimum that a stunning method which renders the animal insensible to pain, but still alive, is developed and adopted as soon as possible. We agree to:
- Actively press our suppliers and support the latest research projects to find alternatives to electrical water bath as a matter of urgency.
- Support the call for the use of water bath stunning to be banned, and new, more humane systems for the effective electric stunning of poultry without conscious inversion to be developed and commercially available by no later than 1 January 2029.
- Commit to adopting such a stunning method (without conscious inversion) as soon as it is commercially available.

We are committed that 100% of our fresh chicken will be compliant to the BCC by the 1st January 2029.
